CULTURE

200+4 leading personalities

An original glossy album, «200+4 of the Most Distinguished Greeks,» by Takis Diamantopoulos, has just been released by Lyberis Publications, a publishing house that maintains that in this Olympic year, highlighting Greek culture should be a priority. The unique collection of photographs presents 204 personalities from the arts, letters and science. The author learned his craft from his father, Thanassis Diamantopoulos. Whether they are faces that look directly at you, or that look out beyond the camera, narcissistic or sensual, Takis Diamantopoulos manages to elicit each individual’s particular character. Actor Lefteris Voyatzis smiles, his finger in his mouth as if watching a performance. Veteran actress Anna Synodinou has nobility and depth, Evgenios Spatharis sits in front of a figure of the Karaghiozis shadow puppet, Olympic Flame-lighting ceremony choreographer Maria Hors looks calm, as if watching dancers on the horizon. Film director Jules Dassin looks distant but always familiar, while Dimitris Nollas’s face dominates the entire page. This is an album that is definitely one of a kind.
