A touch of tradition from all over Greece at the Herod Atticus Theater

The Lyceum of Greek Women dance group will perform the dance production «Colors of Greece» at the Herod Atticus Theater tonight and tomorrow, a genuine and traditional touch that the Hellenic Festival rightly opted to host at this time to satisfy visitors who want to get acquainted with traditional dances and songs from around Greece. The show mostly consists of music and dance highlights from traditional seasonal celebrations in the Greek countryside. Although the costumes date to the early 20th century (they come from the Lyceum’s extensive collection), this does not apply to the rest of the show as the dances, songs, musical instruments and even the rituals still exist. The Lyceum of Greek Women invites the audience to join the dancers in a journey of memory and tradition, from summer harvest dances, to sowing and planting songs in the fall, Christmas and Carnival dances from the wintertime to Easter dances and other rituals celebrating the spring rebirth. In the show, the Lyceum is joined by its Iraklion branch, the Georgakis Olympios Vlach Association of Serres, the Pontian Society of Sourmena, the Georgios Kakoulidis Byzantine and Folk Music Choir, and the Lyceum’s Mousikes Anatropes Youth Choir under the direction of Costas Karamanos and singer Chronis Aidonidis.
