‘My favorite word,’ in art

“Liebe» or «love» proved to be the favorite word for most of the young entrants in a competition run by the Goethe Institute of Athens for pictures illustrating their favorite word. Greek pupils of German responded with talent and imagination, sending in paintings, collages, photographs, real objects and three-dimensional creations, accompanied by clever captions explaining their choices. The competition attracted more than 1,400 entries, from youngsters aged 6-17 from 42 schools and foreign language tuition colleges around Greece. The best 50 entries are in the «My Favorite Word» exhibition which has its official opening at the Goethe Institute on Sept. 17, at 8 p.m., and runs to October 30. High-quality reproductions of the artwork will be on display at the German kiosk at the Paralympics Games (Sept. 17-28). Goethe Institute, 14-16 Omirou, Monday-Friday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
