Exhibition and symposium take place in Metsovo

In Metsovo, a model of development and prosperity in the prefecture of Ioannina, in the region of Epirus, where tradition is «first in arms and in letters,» an exhibition opens today at the Evangelos Averoff Gallery of works by the «father of engraving,» Lykourgos Kogevinas (1887-1940). Concurrently, there will be a symposium at the Diasselo Conference Center on «Aspects of Creativity,» held by the Evangelos Averoff-Tositsas Foundation and its president, Tatiana Averoff-Ioannou. The Evangelos Averoff Gallery, inaugurated in August 1988 by the late politician and collector to house his collection of paintings and sculptures in a gallery, where its continuity of funding would be guaranteed in order to provide a cultural focal point for Metsovo, continues to hold annual exhibitions by young Greek artists that turn it into a hive of creativity every autumn. The landscape, the altitude, the fir trees, stone houses, the hospitality of the local people, the Byzantine churches and the Aghios Nikolaos Monastery all contribute to making it a focus of culture and an example of progress, led by the Averoff-Tositsas family.
