Poetry; Liber in Barcelona

Compendium Books starts its new season of poetry readings tonight, with Anna Antoniadou reading excerpts from Iris Nikolaides’s new book «Folk Tales from Samos,» published by Apoplous. Nikolaides went from Australia to Samos, which she sees as her spiritual home, to record the folk tales of the island, a labor of love that has lasted 20 years. An open-mike session will follow, where members of the audience are welcome to read from their own poetry. (28 Nikis St, Syntagma, 210.322.1248, 8 p.m., but come early to meet your friends.) Liber fair Spanish publishers will offer Greek books a free stand at the Madrid book fair in March 2005, Spanish Publishers’ Federation President Antonio Mario Alvarez told Greek National Book Center (EKEBI) Director Catherine Velissaris. EKEBI was in Barcelona for the Liber 2004 fair, where it had an info-point distributing information to Spanish-language publishers and an exhibition of Greek books that have been translated into Spanish. EKEBI held meetings with all the publishers who are interested in Greek literature and passed on translator’s suggestions about new titles for translation, and also made contact with literary editors from major newspapers and journals including El Pais and El Mundo. EKEBI is compiling information about the Spanish book market for Greek publishers.
