Italian solidarity awards to figures in arts, letters, press

The Italian Embassy, known as the Little Palace of Prince Nicola, opened its doors wide yesterday to nine select representatives of the arts, letters and press. Italian President Azeglio Ciampi accepted the embassy’s recommendations to award the titles of Grand Official and Knight to Greeks who have promoted bilateral cooperation and solidarity with Italy. In a warm atmosphere, with relatives and friends of the recipients present, Italian Ambassador to Athens Gian Paolo Cavarai conferred the Ordine della Stella della Solidarieta Italiana (the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity) on select members of Greek society, among them, to our great pride and joy, our colleague, Kathimerini foreign desk journalist Yiannis Chrsyafis, who was awarded the title of Cavaliere, or Knight.
