Big Time Sarah returns

Chicago blues artist Big Time Sarah, who has generated a considerable following here since her first visit to Greece in the early 1980s, is set to return for yet another appearance this Saturday at the Rodon club. The singer will be backed by the local combo Blues Cargo, an act she has collaborated with in the past. Big Time Sarah emerged from the Chicago blues scene as the leader of her own bands, and, moreover, has also worked with a string of blues artists, among them Willie Dixon, Little Brother Montgomery, Junior Wells and Lonnie Brooks. Her first series of performances here, back in 1983 at a film theater, resulted in a live album titled «Big Time Sarah Live in Athens.» There are more sides to the singer’s Greek link. She contributed to an album by local blues prankster George Pilali, took part in a concert titled «Blues and Rebetika» at the Lycabettus Theater, and has also toured throughout the country with the backing of two Greek groups, Blues Cargo, who perform with the vocalist this Saturday, and Blues Wire, a scintillating combo from Thessaloniki. Besides Big Time Sarah, Blues Cargo, who formed back in 1987, have accompanied various visiting blues acts in the past, including Guitar Shorty, Louisiana Red, Blind Mississippi Morris, Eddie C. Campbell, Lefty Dizz, and Maxine Howard. Propelled by the collective experience gained from these on-stage partnerships, Blues Cargo released an album in 1993 titled «First Delivery.»
