Artworks given in aid of a new national opera
Greek artists are donating works for a good, cultural and national cause. Proceeds from the «Greek Art of the 20th Century» auction, featuring works by no fewer than 46 artists, will go toward the development of a new building to house the National Opera as well as the creation of a music academy. The auction will take place at the National Hellenic Research Foundation’s amphitheater on Monday, December 13, at 7 p.m. The ambitious, joint cultural project is the brainchild of the Society for the Creation of a New National Opera Building and the Maria Callas Music Academy. The society was established upon the initiative of well-known soprano Vasso Papantoniou. The following artists have donated works: Dimitris Alithinos, Artemis Alkalai, Evgenia Apostolou, Dimitra Vamiali, Lydia Venieri, Panayiotis Gravalos, Stefanos Daskalakis, Opi Zouni, Irini Iliopoulou, Lina Theodorou, Thodoros, Niki Kanagini, Argiro Karibaka-Negreponti, Michalis Katzourakis, Rachid Khimoune, Panos Kokkinias, Dimosthenis Kokkinidis, Popi Krouska, Vassilis Kypraios, Vasso Kyriaki, Florika Kyriakopoulou, Giorgos Lazongas, Lazaros Maravas, Despina Meimaroglou, Yiannis Migadis, Antonis Michailidis, Iason Molfessis, Manolis Babousis, Chronis Botsoglou, Dimitris Mytaras, Tonia Nikolaidi, Vana Xenou, Maria Papadimitriou, Ilias Papailiakis, Nafsika Pastra, Pavlos, Meropi Preka, Giorgos Rorris, Eduardos Sakayan, Christina Sarantopoulou, Sotiris Sorongas, Aris Stoidis, Nakis Tastsioglou, Costas Tsoklis and Manolis Haros. Prior to next week’s auction, the works are already available for public viewing at the National Hellenic Research Foundation premises.
