Greek professor receives the Herder Award

Professor Giorgos Babiniotis, rector of Athens University, has won the Herder Award. The selection committee of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation in Hamburg awards the Herder to people who have contributed to learning and to preserving the cultural heritage of their country. The award carries a purse of more than 15,000 euros. Professor Babiniotis will receive the award from the rector of Vienna University at an official ceremony in the great hall of the university on May 3. This honor to a Greek professor reflects on Greek university teachers and Greek academics in general. The award also includes a year’s scholarship (worth 880 euros a month) to Vienna University for a Greek graduate from the same discipline as the award winner. The graduate will also participate in the award ceremony.
