Another very special evening of music at the Herod Atticus is to be staged this coming Monday, August 22: an excellent Greek-German co-production with the Radiophilarmonie des Norddeutschen Rundfunk, based in Hanover, directed by Nikos Tsouchlos with music by Periklis Koukos. According to the invitation to a post-performance dinner at the Dionysos restaurant from Germany’s acting ambassador Guy Feaux de la Croix, «singer Maria Farandouri will do us the honor of appearing as soloist.» The muse of Mikis Theodorakis, Farandouri is a singer of international repute. Koukos, who left his post as head of the Athens Festival to return to composing, and the Athens Festival Choir will lend their brilliance to the concert, which also includes a choreography by Ersi Pitta. «Diary for Passers-by» is the title of the second part. Lyrics, texts and direction are by Christoforos Christofis. The first section is titled Canciones Populaires, a symphonic suite for guitar and orchestra to Spanish songs from the collection by Federico Garcia Lorca. Antigone Goni will play guitar and the narrator is actor Lakis Lazopoulos.
