onedotzero: London’s huge digital film festival comes to Bios tomorrow

The arrival in Athens of the onedotzero festival tomorrow evening marks the start of a new creative season for the Bios center on Pireos Street, which this year celebrates its second year of operation. The happening from London, one of the leading festivals of digital film and the largest of its kind in the world, will run until Sunday. Including performance art and concerts, the event will take up the venue’s entire space. The onedotzero festival is not like other film festivals in form and character. It brings together artists from all over the world from different disciplines, such as graphics, illustration, fashion and information technology, in a drive to embrace all forms of expression that have to do with moving images, from the commercial to the experimental. The Athens show will include a special session of screenings from past and present festivals. More specifically, the screenings program has been organized around eight separate thematic units. «Extended Play,» for example, shows award-winning short films and animation from around the world, while «Wavelength» focuses on a futuristic approach to music videos. Concern with the modern urban environment continues to represent a source of inspiration for many artists around the world, and with the «Graphic Cities» category onedotzero shows some artists’ thoughts on the subject. The festival also includes a tribute to film and music video director Mike Mills, a leading graphic artist who, among other achievements, has created music videos for Moby, Yoko Ono and Air, while also designing album covers for popular music acts such as the Beastie Boys. Last, but not least, the unit titled «Wow + Flutter» is a compilation of films that explore the future of moving images. Bios, 84 Pireos, tel 210.342.5335. Admission to all screenings is free of charge.
