Tribute to celebrated choreographer Manou

Two performances honoring the memory of the esteemed Greek choreographer Rallou Manou are being presented by the Elliniko Horodrama company on Friday and Saturday at the new wing of the Benaki Museum on Pireos Street. The show, proceeds of which will go in aid of the Hadzikyriakeio Child Protection Foundation, will feature highlights from old performances and a taste of the present. The program, which is structured around three parts, begins with the x-anima dance group in a piece titled «Female Steps.» Choreographed by Nicole Koutsoubeli and Maria Gerakari (with music by Kimo Vigli), the dance addresses the relationship between five women and the change of balance when one member of the company leaves. Next is a brief piano recital titled «Music for Children.» Here, composer Filippos Tsalachouris will play extracts of well-known pieces for children and adults, as well as a selection of works by Dimitri Kabalevsky and Tito Arpea, Erik Satie and Manos Hadjidakis. In the finale, the audience will have the opportunity to see the legendary choreography by Manou, «The Cursed Snake,» featuring music by Hadjidakis and costumes designed by Nikos Hadzikyriakou-Gikas. The piece is centered on a scene from the traditional Karaghiozis shadow theater. For information, tel 210.451.3387, 210.322.0640.
