After the Rolling Stones announced they are planning to visit Greece next year, Depeche Mode followed suit. The band said it will include Greece in its «Touring the Angel» world tour and will perform at Terra Vibe on Tuesday, August 1. The front-runners of pop electronica will take the Malakassa stage equipped with a new album and special guests along with well-known songs from the past and the present. Tickets will be available starting December 15. Depeche Mode’s latest album, «Playing the Angel,» has already produced singles such as «Precious,» «Sinner in Me,» «Suffer Well» and «A Pain That I Used to Be.» Group members Martin Gore, Dave Gahan and Andy Fletcher often flirt with the contrast between black and white on stage, on their album covers and in photography sessions. These are the two sides to Depeche Mode – the optimistic and the pessimistic. Loyal fans who have been following the band throughout the years say Depeche Mode has only gotten better since they first appeared on stage 20 years ago, maintaining a tight balance between rock and blues, pop and electronica. On «Playing the Angel,» several songs are addictive, but there are also moments when the melodies are hypnotizing and the sounds turn spooky. A critic recently wrote that Gahan seems to have been possessed by Elvis Presley, James Brown and Mick Jagger. Nevertheless, the band is bound to be in top form since it hasn’t toured for five years. This time, Depeche Mode decided to dedicate six weeks of touring the United States and then come to Europe in 2006. In 2001, they performed 85 concerts for 2 million fans.
