Weather report, Athens and Epidaurus festivals
Athens and its surrounding region of Attica were attacked by a cold winter winds and snow that froze everything, including transport. Fortunately, the city and suburban rail lines kept going day and night. The traffic bottleneck on the Athens-Thessaloniki highway at Tempe gave the ruling and main opposition parties food for dispute, and the media plenty of footage. On the third day the Attic sun came out, however, helping everything return to normal. Although the snow did not settle on the Acropolis, the monument was closed because of ice on the paths. And, finally, this year’s program for the Athens and Epidaurus festivals was announced by its new president, Giorgos Loukos, who has reduced the Herod Atticus Theater season from five months to two (June and July) with only benefit performances being held in September. The Epidaurus season has also been reduced, from 10 to six weeks.
