Following two major exhibitions, new show set to celebrate the genius of Leonardo da Vinci

Though this year is internationally dedicated to the genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, this country is celebrating another brilliant mind, that of Leonardo da Vinci. Two exhibitions were inaugurated in the last few months alone. The exhibition «Leonardo da Vinci – Inventor and Scientist» opened in Patras as the city officially become European Cultural Capital for 2006, while «The Genius of Leonardo,» an interactive show, was also inaugurated at the Hellenic Cosmos venue of the Foundation of the Hellenic World, featuring reproductions of machines designed by the Italian artist. The trilogy will now be completed by «Leonardo da Vinci: Secrets of His Creativity in Art and Science, From the Da Vinci Museum to the Athens Concert Hall.» The show, scheduled to open on March 16 and run to May 8, will showcase items stemming from the Da Vinci museum in Florence, including late 15th century and early 16th century original handwritten codes, engravings as well as original sketches of paintings and inventions. The exhibition is curated by Alessandro Vezzosi and is organized under the auspices of the president of the Italian Republic. At the Athens Concert Hall, the pieces will throw light on to Leonardo’s pioneering scientific activities, while fans of Dan Brown’s «Da Vinci Code» are eagerly anticipating the film adaptation, to be released in May.
