Cartoonists’ impressions

An especially interesting form of illustrated narrative that deals with the events of everyday life and records great moments in history is the focus of the exhibition «Frame-By-Frame» being organized by the City of Athens in collaboration with the Galera comics magazine at the City’s Art Center from tomorrow to April 1. Galera made its mark on the Greek comics scene several months ago for its caustic commentary on local and international politics, as well as for the fact that it brought together renowned Greek cartoonists and journalists. For the exhibition, the magazine and the municipality have invited Joe Sacco, Phoebe Gloeckner and Nicole Schulman from the USA, Felipe Cava from Spain, French-Algerian Kamel Khelif, Tomas Lavric from Slovenia and Gabrielle Gamberini from Italy to show their works alongside Galera regulars Aleksandar Zograf from Serbia and, from Greece, Spyros Derveniotis, Petros Zervos, the duos Vangelis Matziris and Savvaidis, and Gavriil Pagoni and Stavros Dilios, Thanasis Petrou, Petros Christoulias and many more. A series of lectures and round-table discussions will also be held within the context of the exhibition. City of Athens Art Center, Vassilissis Sofias Avenue, at the back of Eleftherias Park, tel 210.723.2603. Open daily 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. except Sunday afternoons and Mondays.
