Books, films and a day for young readers

More Greek books will become films abroad if a concerted effort at the upcoming Monte Carlo Forum of Cinema and Literature pays off. The National Book Center (EKEBI), the Greek Film Center, Thessaloniki Film Festival, National Hellenic Broadcasting and three leading Greek publishers have joined forces to promote the local product at the forum, running from April 7-9. This year, alongside the standard international literary adaptation marker, the forum will be running a remake film market. Greece wants a share of both sectors: Publishers have recommended 15 titles and EKEBI has proposed 10 titles for remakes. The Greek presence will be even stronger next year, when Greece will be guest of honor at Monte Carlo. ‘I read everywhere’ April 2 is International Children’s Book Day, and EKEBI is celebrating in Zappeion, Friday-April 2, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. «I read everywhere» is the slogan to encourage children to make books an enjoyable part of everyday life. Games, performances and workshops for drama, music and art will take place daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children can meet some of their favorite authors at events held jointly with publishers, and new books will also be on sale.
