Cyprus invests in culture and tourism
The opening of the Thalassa Museum in Aghia Napa by Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos enhances the cultural profile of Cyprus in the highly competitive Mediterranean. The new municipal museum, which is dedicated to the sea, is located in the popular tourist resort of Aghia Napa and is under the direction of the Pieridis Museum in collaboration with the Greek Institute for the Protection of Maritime Tradition and the Zoi Tornariti-Pieridi Marine Foundation. It will benefit from the experience and vision of seasoned operators in the field. Among those present at the opening was Dimitris Pieridis, president of the Pieridis Foundation, who has worked with vision to build a cultural bridge between Cyprus and Greece. The museum, where Fotos Kikkilos serves as director and Yiannis Tomazis as curator, is an impressive complex of buildings designed by Zinonas and Christina Sierepeklis. It was established at the initiative of Aghia Napa Mayor Varvara Pericleous.
