Piano extravaganza ends Little Theater concerts

Musical July’s concert series at the Little Theater of Epidaurus will end on Saturday with the Piandaemonium piano ensemble. Twelve young pianists will join forces to interpret works by contemporary Greek and foreign composers, from Nikos Skalkottas and Thodoros Antoniou, to Giorgos Koumentakis and Mack Wilberg. «After teaching music and working as a pianist for many years, I felt the need to get together with my old students and play music with them in a different way,» says Domna Evnouchidou, founder of the Piandaemonium ensemble. «Our aim was to play music written by contemporary, mostly, composers and introduce the public to the richness and variety of contemporary music creation.» At the Little Theater, the young pianists will play Antoniou’s «Three Portraits for 12 Pianists and 6 Pianos,» Vassos Nikolaou’s «Quadra,» Koumentakis’s «Typewriter Tune» (written especially for Piandaemonium and commissioned by the Hellenic Festival), Nikos Skalkottas’s «Six Greek Dances,» Albert Lavignac’s «Gallop-Marche,» Wilberg’s «Fantasia on a theme from Bizet’s ‘Carmen’» and George-Emmanuel Lazaridis’s «Nostos.» Participating pianists are Haralambos Angelopoulos, Antonis Anissengos, Eftychia Veniota, Domna Evnouchidou, Nikos Zafranas, Stefanos Thomopoulos, Lenio Liatsou, Maya Luescher, Irini Mavrou, Christos Noulis, Thodoros Tzovanakis and Costas Hardas. For tickets: Hellenic Festival, in «What’s On.»
