Music and more at River Party

Yesterday saw the start of the annual River Party, a festival of alternative Greek music held at Nestorio near Kastoria in northwestern Greece, which will run to Sunday. Once again, the festival takes place on the shores of the Aliakmonas River, about 22 kilometers away from the city of Kastoria, near beautiful Mount Grammos. Music fans of every age have an opportunity to hear their favorite local musicians perform right next to the river, under the shade of the trees. The 28th River Party started off with a performance by Patras-based, pop and rock act Raining Pleasure, who were joined by Ypogeia Revmata. Today’s program features shows by veteran rocker Vassilis Papaconstantinou, Mora sti Fotia, Tania Kikidi and Marlen Angelidi. Before the shows, DJ Costas Zikos from Nitro radio will treat the crowd to DJ sets. Saturday will kick off with sets by DJ Deep Nite Elements. He will be followed by live music by distinguished composer Thanos Mikroutsikos, Dionysis Tsaknis, Yiannis Koutras, Zak Stefanou and Eleonora Zouganeli. Sunday’s concerts will start off with Costas Makedonas and will continue with Despina Olympiou, Zoe Papadopoulou and Nikos Michas. The live music will be preceded by DJ S from Goin’ Through. The River Party also features nature activities such as hikes to various nearby areas, excursions to Grammos and orientation games, as well as a fun park. The festival offers an organized campsite (equipped with toilets, showers, a bar, phones and more), but there are also hostels and inns both in the village of Nestorio, which is right next door, and in Kastoria. Access from Kastoria is easy, as the KTEL bus services is making extra runs on the festival days to facilitate visitors. For further information, log on to www.riverparty.org.
