Music galore on Syros

Renowned Greek and foreign musicians, conductors and ensembles are currently in Syros for the Cyclades International Music Festival, which kicked off on Friday and will run to September 2. All classical music concerts are being held at the Apollo Theater in Ermoupolis. This Wednesday, the Greek Winds Academy will pay tribute to Mozart along with pianist Danae Karra, while the Royal Danish Orchestra will give two concerts under the baton of Vyron Fidetzis and joined by various soloists on Friday and Saturday. Violinist Leonidas Kavakos and pianist Peter Nagy will interpret works by Ravel, Stravinsky and Beethoven on Sunday. On August 30, the Cyclades Festival Strings Quartet will play works by Respighi, de Falla and Piazzolla, conducted by Arien Tien, along with guitarist Costas Kotsiolis, mezzo-soprano Angeliki Kathariou and cellist Leo Winland. The festival will end with a baroque music concert featuring maestro John Apeitos on September 1 and a tribute to Shostakovich and Mozart by the Artis Piano Trio and pianist Dimitris Sgouros on September 2.
