At Ilioupolis, theater, music and lots more

Singers Glykeria and Gerasimos Andreatos will be opening this year’s Ilioupolis Festival with a great celebration of popular folk song on August 28. The monthlong festival has a very rich program and focuses on music and theater. Most of the theater productions included are those that have been on tour around the country this summer, but well-known Greek singers and musicians are also scheduled to play at Ilioupolis’s park in September. On August 30, the Municipal Regional Theater of Thessaly will stage Euripides’ tragedy «Helen,» directed by Yiannis Margaritis and starring Filareti Komninou, Constantinos Constantopoulos, Dimitris Siakaras and Marianthi Sontaki. The following day, Miltos Paschalidis and Vassilis Skoulas will give a concert of Greek music. On September 1, the Municipal Regional Theater of Agrinion will perform Lorca’s «The Love of Don Perlimplin,» starring Aris Lembessopoulos and Marissa Triandafyllidou, which will be followed by a two-day music tribute to young people with performances by local acts Rodes, Endelecheia, Motivo 4 and Elitron. Bost’s comedy «Maria Pentayiotissa,» a Diadromi Theater production starring Petros Philippidis which is based on a popular folk fairy tale, will go on stage on September 4 and singer Manolis Rassoulis will play on September 5. Composer Thanos Mikroutsikos joins forces with singers Dionysis Tsaknis, Yiannis Koutras and Eleonora Zouganeli on September 7, while the Neos Cosmos Theater will perform Shakespeare’s classic «Othello» the next day. The program further includes the production «An Evening with Shakespeare,» a compilation of different love scenes from five of Shakespeare’s masterpieces,by the Proskinio Theater and starring Pemi Zouni, on September 13 as well as much more.
