Ancient drama meet starts

For a second consecutive year, the Meeting of Ancient Drama is beginning at Sicyon in the Peloponnesian city of Kiato today and runs to Sunday. A joint cooperation by the area’s municipal authorities along with the Athens-based Attis Theater and artistic director Theodoros Terzopoulos, the aim of this significant forum is to promote the region as a hub for similar events centered on ancient drama. According to the municipality, another regional goal is to give some publicity to the Ancient Theater of Sicyon, at which excavations are still under way. Despite the fact that the dig has not yet been completed, the surrounding areas, along with a cluster of important industrial buildings dating to the inter-war years, provide the platform for this year’s meeting, which has been titled «Descent,» inspired by references to mythological heroes’ descents into Hades. The meeting will bring together significant writers and theorists from around the world who will discuss the overall theme of descent, and will also feature theatrical productions.
