‘The Birds’ with music composed by Hadjidakis

The «Birds 06,» a production by the Municipal Regional Theater of Patras, will go on stage at the Herod Atticus Theater on Sunday and Monday. Director Themis Moumoulidis has taken a different approach to Aristophanes’ richly imaginative comedy, this new version based on music written by composer Manos Hadjidakis. Moumoulidis explained that Hadjidakis’s music was the impetus that led the troupe to stage the comedy and added that Hadjidakis’s work is one of the most important 20th century Greek musical works. «For the first time, all the compositions Hadjidakis wrote at different times for ‘The Birds’ can be found in one show,» he said and went on to add that the style of the text has been adapted to suit the music. The production stars Yiannis Bezos, Fotis Spyros, Evripidis Laskaridis and Stelios Drivas. The sets and costumes were designed by Lili Pezanou and the choreography is by Haris Mandafounis. Nikos Kypourgos was the music consultant. Tickets can be purchased at the Hellenic Festival box office (39 Panepistimiou, tel 210.327.2000).
