ACS center to tune in for global peace drive

The Arts Center of the American Community Schools of Athens will be tuning into a global campaign for peace this Sunday as it goes online to London’s Wembley Arena to broadcast live an event titled «just-a-minute.» Coinciding with United Nations World Peace Day, «just-a-minute» is an initiative launched by the 70-year-old Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, a non-profit group promoting silence as a form of protest. The event in London, featuring 150 performers and which will be broadcast simultaneously to over 100 countries, stars Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, alongside comedienne Ruby Wax, actor and producer Clarke Peters (who stars in HBO hit series «The Wire»), TV presenter Tania Bryer and author and PR guru Lynne Franks. There will also be music from top-selling recording artists Bliss and Michael Timothy, formerly of Massive Attack, as well as world music and dance ensembles. In Athens, the Arts Center will be broadcasting the events in London live from 6-6.30 p.m. before presenting its own concert program with Yiannis Spanos and Mimis Plessas, and the In Media Res and Ios vocal and music ensembles. At 6.25 p.m. exactly, the audience and artists will hold a one-minute silence for peace. ACS Arts Center, 53 Garyttou, Halandri, tel 210.6393.341. Admission is free of charge, though it is advisable to reserve seats.
