‘Konvicted’ His debut album made a favorable first impression, while his collaborations with a host of colleagues, among them Gwen Stefani and Elton John, highlighted his songwriting talent. But this latest project is the one that has lifted Akon’s career to hip-hop’s dizzier heights, even though it’s unjust to classify this artist as being totally hip-hop. A talented songwriter, singer and producer, Akon has delivered a hip-hop/R&B album with rock inclinations. Consider the track «Never Took the Time» and you’ll agree that he rocks well. The Bob Marley-like «Mama Africa» indicates that the field of reggae is not foreign territory for Akon either. A tremendous album with lots to discover over repeated listening.
