Nomad dance fest starts tomorrow

Eight local dance groups, four music bands and 10 artists join forces in one show this week. Installations, photography, video dance, video art and performances by young artists will form the backbone of the second festival organized by the contemporary dance group Horeftes, which will run from tomorrow to Sunday at the Foundation of the Hellenic World (254 Pireos, Tavros, tel 212.254.0000). There have been a couple of changes since last year’s event. The first is that all the happenings will take place at the FHW’s new building, Hellenic Cosmos. The second is that the festival, which last year was introduced as the Mad Festival, has changed its name to Nomad. This year’s program includes two dance groups and one band performing each day, while the exhibitions will be ongoing for the duration of the festival. Performances will begin at 9 p.m., though doors will open an hour earlier to allow the public a chance to visit the areas with installations and video projections. The contemporary Greek dance scene is represented by the following groups: Horeftes, 11, Ki Omos Kineitai (Yet It Moves), Fygein Adynaton (Escape is Impossible), Smack, Plefsis and the Persa Stamatopoulou Dance Company. There will also be a special appearance by Rowan Thorpe, an independent choreographer. Among the headliners providing the music are Earthbound and Kristy Stassinopoulou.
