A style darling in Thessaloniki

Well-known for his glamorous take on fashion, Julien MacDonald is expected in Thessaloniki next month. The Welsh designer is scheduled to present an haute couture catwalk collection at the city’s Nikopolis Hotel on June 21. According to the upcoming show’s organizers, the event marks the first time the city is hosting an international fashion designer, though MacDonald presented a collection in Athens in 2003. Besides an array of celebrity friends and clients – the list is long and includes the likes of Madonna, Kylie and Paris – MacDonald boasts a solid career in the global industry. Noticed by the late stylist Isabella Blow, the designer went on to collaborate with Karl Lagerfeld in Chanel’s knitwear department, before setting up his own company as well as replacing Alexander McQueen at the house of Givenchy. These days MacDonald is developing his own brand and working on various projects, including a line for Debenhams and reworking British Airways uniforms.
