Flatley’s stage hit arrives

Following hundreds of sold-out shows around the world, «Lord of the Dance,» Michael Flatley’s enormously successful dance production, begins an 11-night run in Athens tonight, at the Olympic Badminton Theater. The work, inspired by imaginary tales, folklore, ancient myths and Irish medieval legends, ranks as the world’s most profitable artistic spectacle of the past decade. Constantly on tour throughout the world, it has so far generated profits in excess of -450 million. The production, which opened just over a decade ago, on July 2, 1996, at Dublin’s Point Theatre, excited both critics and theatergoers. Not long after, when the production was taken to New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, it was presented over 13 sold-out nights. To date, «Lord of the Dance» has drawn over 50 million theatergoers in 60 countries on all five continents. Flatley’s production features a cast of wonderful dancers, among them Bernadette Flynn and Damien O’Kane.
