First official visit of parliamentary speaker to president
The first official meeting between the new parliamentary speaker, Dimitris Sioufas, and President of the Greek Republic Karolos Papoulias took place yesterday in a cordial atmosphere and with a message for the provinces. Papoulias is from Yiannitsa and Sioufas from Karditsa, where the Pindus range joins Epirus and Thessaly. After the initial greetings, the president wished the speaker good luck in his task and the two men discussed the provinces. «They are my first concern, as they are yours,» said Sioufas. «It’s the first time in many years that Greece has both a president and speaker from the provinces. I think that is a very good message, that the heart of Greece beats not only in Athens but also in the Greek provinces.»
