Heracles Cement celebrates Greek art in calendar

Calendars issued every year by the Heracles General Cement Company have traditionally focused on Greek art for over half a century. Names that are now famous – Nikos Hadzikyriakos-Gikas, Yiannis Tsarouchis, Yiannis Moralis, Spyros Vasileiou, Panayiotis Tetsis, Dimitris Galanis, Yiannis Spyropoulos and Dimitris Mytaras are just some of the names to have featured, with works specially commissioned for the calendars. According to art historian Haris Kambouridis, these collections are an important national treasure. This year’s features 12 paintings, one for each month, plus one for the year overall, and includes one by Yiannis Moralis of Heracles sitting at a cafe in Athens enjoying a cigarette and coffee and playing with his worry beads.
