Literary Translation Award, 2008

Literary translations into Greek from English, French, German, Italian and Spanish which were published in 2007 are eligible for the Literary Translation Award, now in its second year. The award is offered jointly by the European Translation Center (EKEMEL) and five foreign institutes in Athens: the British Council, the Goethe Institute, the Cervantes Institute, the French Institute and the Italian Cultural Institute. Novels, short stories, poetry and plays will be considered for the prize. Separate committees for each language will comprise a representative of EKEMEL, a representative of the related institute, a translator, a writer and a literary critic. Five translators, one from each language, will receive a prize of 3,000 euros and a month’s stay at the House of Literature at Lefkes on the island of Paros. The winners will be announced in September 2008 during the celebrations for International Translation Day. Translators and publishers are invited to submit applications – accompanied by three copies of the Greek translation and one of the original text – by February 29, 2008, to EKEMEL (2 Lykavittou, 10671, Athens). Application forms and further details are available on EKEMEL’s website: www.ekemel.gr.
