Punk rock’s Sex Pistols to headline at Fly Beeyond
Everything is in the mix, from avant-garde electronica to psychedelic rock, blues, jazz and even Gypsy violins. The two-day Fly Beeyond music festival will take place at the Karaiskaki Stadium in Neo Faliron today and tomorrow, with Massive Attack and the Sex Pistols headlining. Local act Imam Baildi will mark today’s opening, with its Balkan melodies that carry electronic and hip-hop touches. Rockers the National will be up next and will be followed by trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack, the band that paved the way for almost all of the modern music scene. The night will end with a mad Gypsy punk party by the Gogol Bordello, a band that thrills audiences with every performance. Its explosive stage presence coupled with a mixture of New York culture and Balkan tradition is always guaranteed to heat things up. Tomorrow, local punk music fans will have the opportunity to watch a legendary band live. The Sex Pistols may have lasted as a band for only three years, but that was enough to leave its mark on a whole era. The 1977 album «Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols» caused an uproar for its provocative songs – especially «God Save the Queen» and «Anarchy in the UK» – but went straight to No 1 in the British music charts. The group disbanded in 1978 and one year later bassist Sid Vicious died of a drug overdose at the age of 21.
