Printmakers to have their day

Greece has recently been full of Biennale art events: The visual arts, photography and architecture have all had their share. There has been a gap though, which the City of Rhodes has now come to fill. The first ever Mediterranean Triennale of Printing will take place on the island from August until November, at the same time founding a printmaking workshop. As the exhibition will run every three years, Mediterranean printmakers will have the opportunity to present their work and, above all, to exchange artistic experiences. So far, 12 countries have announced their participation in the 1st Triennale. Greece will be represented by 20 artists, featuring more than 100 works. The works will go on display at the Nestoridion Municipal Library and Greece will be honoring printmakers Tania Nikolaidi as well as Valias Semertzidis. There will also be a tribute to Greek printmaking, which will be held at the Municipal Gallery situated in the medieval town’s Symi Square. The tribute will include the founders of Greek printmaking such as Dimitris Galanis, Angelos Theodoropoulos, Yiannis Kefallinos, Lykourgos Kogevinas and Nikos Ventouras as well as works by major artists including Giorgos Velissaridis, Dimitris Yiannoukakis, Costas Grammatopoulos and others.
