Tracing M.C. Escher through works on show at Thiseion’s Herakleidon Museum

Detail, patience and a playful attitude stand out in the works of Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher, on display at the Herakleidon, Experience in Visual Arts Museum. When the museum opened in Thiseion four years ago, its owners, Pavlos and Anna-Belinda Fyros, presented for the first time to the Greek public a retrospective exhibition of Escher’s works from their private collection. This year’s display is enriched with pieces on loan from the largest Escher collector, demonstrating the different phases in the artist’s work. The exhibition focuses on drafts that can be seen either framed and hanging in the museum’s dark rooms, with insect-like spotlights highlighting the details, or as part of the many digital presentations projected on small screens.
