Cirque Eloize dances in the rain
Montreal’s Cirque Eloize is on a mission: to constantly renew the circus tradition. The Canadian company’s latest production «Rain,» its sixth to date, is part of its ongoing efforts far from the kind of circus performances that revolve around animal taming and training. «Rain» is currently on stage at the Greek capital’s Badminton Theater, with performances running to December 21. Known as «cirque nouveau,» troupes such as Cirque Eloize and Cirque du Soleil focus on juggling or acrobatics but also on acting and movement. In «Rain,» the story takes place in a rehearsal hall, where a group of performers are interacting as they go back in time and recall their childhood memories. Daniele Finzi Pasca, Rain’s director, says in the production’s notes: «Unexpected things can come from the sky: messages, signs, promises.» Badminton Theater, Goudi, Military Park, tel 211.108.6024.
