Powerful play and photo exhibition

Thursday June 13 sees the one and only performance of Ariel Dorfman’s play «Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark,» based on Kerry Kennedy Cuomo’s book. Artistic direction is by Michael Cacoyannis. The play features well-known actors and young singers. First staged at the J.F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC on September 19, 2000 under the auspices of the then-President Bill Clinton, it starred Alec Baldwin, John Malkovich and Sigourney Weaver. Tickets are on sale at the Athens Concert Hall, where Kerry’s book, translated by Marlena Georgiadi, is also on sale. The previous day, June 12, an exhibition of photographs by Eddie Adams opens at the Athens Municipality’s Freedom Park (Parko Eleftherias) under the aegis of President Costis Stephanopoulos. The exhibition consists of portraits of the 50 people presented in Kerry’s book. Adams, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1969, first exhibited these photographs at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington and has since seen them go on tour around the world. The exhibition will be open in Athens until June 25, every day except Monday and Sunday afternoon, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Kerry Kennedy Cuomo’s book will also be on sale at the exhibition. Telecoms eased 1.24 percent with index heavyweight OTE Telecom closing 1.22 percent lower at 17.74 euros.
