Svolopoulos on foreign policy, Vol 2

Former Prime Minister Giorgios Rallis is to present the second volume, by Professor Costas Svolopoulos, of «Greece’s Foreign Policy 1945-1981,» at the Benaki Museum on Wednesday June 12 at 8 p.m. The book, published by Estia, follows on from the first volume which covered the period 1900-1945, reprinted nine times since it was published 10 years ago. That’s a good omen for the second volume, whose cover shows the late Constantine Karamanlis, prime minister at the time, signing the treaty of Greece’s accession to what was then the European Community on May 28, 1979 at the Zappeion Hall, alongside then-Foreign Minister Rallis and Minister for EC Affairs Giorgios Kontogiorgis. Giorgios Rallis’s political career has followed many of the events described in the book, particularly the often dramatic developments in the Cyprus question, relations with Greece’s Balkan neighbors and Turkey. So, his speech at the book launch is awaited with much interest. Telecoms eased 1.24 percent with index heavyweight OTE Telecom closing 1.22 percent lower at 17.74 euros.
