Journey through the rich musical history of China

Greek audiences can experience China’s rich musical history on Saturday and Sunday with the National Traditional Orchestra of China performing at the Herod Atticus Theater. The National Traditional Orchestra of China, conducted by Chen Xieyang, Xy Zhijun and Dimitris Agrafiotis, is well known for its blending of Eastern and Western elements. A Western-style orchestral ensemble, it uses traditional Chinese instruments, such as the erhu and piba, and comprises some of the finest specialized Chinese musicians, who came together at the China Central Ensemble of National Music, a highly respected body devoted to Chinese folk music. Established in 1960, the orchestra’s aim is to keep enriching the country’s folk music traditions for both local and foreign audiences.
