Alison Moyet at the Sani Festival

She may have started out as an apprentice piano tuner… but a lot has changed since. Alison Moyet’s upcoming performance at Sani Hill in Halkidiki on Saturday, as part of the ongoing annual Sani Festival, is one of this week’s highlights. British singer and songwriter Moyet, with the distinctively deep voice and punk attitude, is scheduled to perform along with the Michel Legrand Trio. The Saturday performance is part of a tribute to Oscar-winning and Grammy award-winning composer Legrand, titled «Music on Film vs Film on Music» and featuring three films for which he wrote the music. «Les parapluies de Cherbourg,» «La piscine» and «Lola» will be screened on Thursday, Friday and Sunday respectively, at Cine Orfeas. Moyet became known to the wider public with the mega hit «Only You,» which she interpreted as a member of Yazoo in the early 1980s. She embarked on a solo career and in 1984 she released her debut solo album «Alf,» which became a big hit, especially in Britain. To this day, Moyet has released seven solo albums, the most recent one being the 2007 «The Turn.» The Brit award-winning vocalist has also appeared in the West End, making her debut in 2001 in the hit musical «Chicago.» Apart from Legrand, who will be playing the piano, the ensemble with which Moyet will perform further consists of bassist Pierre Boussaguet and drummer Remi Vignolo. Tickets can be purchased at Thessaloniki’s Stereodisc music store and the Eleftheroudakis bookstores. For further information, call 2310.317.327 or visit www.saniresort.gr/sanifestival.
