A Greek award for France’s Michel Legrand

Prolific French composer Michel Legrand recently added yet another award to a long list of distinctions: a Golden Alexander awarded by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival for his 50-year career in the world of music. The award was bestowed during a live concert at the Sani Festival in Kassandra last week, as part of the festival’s new series, «Music on Film vs Film on Music.» In response, Legrand provided a magical musical evening for all those who went up the hill to enjoy the tribute to the French silver screen’s glorious years, whose original music scores were predominantly composed by Legrand. «Michel Legrand’s Golden Alexander award is but small recognition of the great oeuvre of this artist who has given so much to music and cinema,» said Despina Mouzaki, director of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, during the award ceremony. «I’m deeply honored by your gift,» replied the award-winning composer, before taking his seat at the piano. He was promptly joined on stage by the wonderful Alison Moyet and his wife Catherine as harp soloist for the evening. For more information on visit www.saniresort.gr.
