Held at the Lavrio Technological and Cultural Park for the 12th consecutive year, the Mediterranean Documentary Film Festival will once more screen documentaries from the region’s countries from this Saturday to September 15. This year’s participating countries are Greece, France, Spain, Israel, Italy, Croatia, Palestine and Turkey. The 12th Mediterranean Documentary Film Festival, which will feature 20 films, is dedicated to the memory of film directors Kostas Sfikas and Nikos Antonakos, who passed away recently. There will also be a special tribute to the work of filmmaker Nikos Kavoukidis. According to the festival’s artistic director Vasilis Vafeas, the main themes on which the festival focuses are work, portraits and political documentaries. He notes that there are no awards, so as to avoid competition and comparisons, while screenings include older productions which are indicative of Greek cinema’s continuity. Parallel events include a concert of works by Stavros Xarhakos, titled «The Art of Film Music,» which will take place at 9 p.m. on Saturday. The Lavrio Technological and Cultural Park will further host a photography exhibition by Yiannis Iakovidis, titled «The Color of Time: Lavrio, Images of Industrial Memory,» as well as a discussion on documentary makers, which will be held after the screening of a film made by Panteio University students.
