Brosnan promotes movie in Greece

Actor Pierce Brosnan has become a regular visitor to Greece. Following the filming of «Mamma Mia!» a couple years ago, he came to Athens recently for the promotion of his new film «Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.» Along with the movie’s director Chris Columbus and British comedian Steve Coogan, who plays the part of Hades, Brosnan gave interviews and was photographed in front of the Acropolis. In the film, he portrays the centaur Chiron, to whom he said he gave a paternal dimension. He joked that he did not particularly enjoy having to wear a pair of special tights – necessary in order to add the effects that depicted him as half human, half horse – but had only good things to say about his experiences in Greece. «I love this country,» he said. «After ‘Mamma Mia!’ I came back with my wife for a romantic holiday.» Columbus is very experienced in family entertainment and his work includes hits like «Home Alone» and the first two films in the Harry Potter series. «I wanted to make a movie that both adults and children can watch without getting bored,» he said. The series of books starring Percy Jackson, a young semi-god, is inspired by Greek mythology but does not reproduce it. «We tried to show Greek mythology the way it is portrayed in classic illustrated versions,» said Columbus. The film, which also stars Uma Thurman, Sean Bean and Catherine Keener, will hit cinemas on February 18.
