Rockwave to host Black Eyed Peas

The addition of Black Eyed Peas as one of the bands taking part in this summer’s Rockwave festival program has given the annual event a new impetus. It is almost certain that the melodic electronic and dance tunes of the California band will attract the highest number of visitors to the Terra Vibe Park on July 7, the date of the festival’s opening. The day will be defined by a spirit of dance, featuring local audience favorite Faithless and their song «God Is a DJ» as well as local talent Constantinos Beta. Rhythm will be a constant feature throughout the duration of the summer festival, which this year turns 14. Leading the show on July 10 is Fatboy Slim, followed by The Ting Tings, sampling master DJ Shadow, British indie band White Lies and Garcia Plays Kyuss. The festival’s final live show on July 11 belongs to Massive Attack, who will be presenting their new album, «Heligoland.» Set to play on the same night, is New York City gypsy-punk sensation Gogol Bordello, who will also share with the audience numerous tracks from their new album, «Transcontinental Hustle;» Martina Topley Bird, known through her collaborations with Tricky; Spain’s Ska-P and their combinations of highly energetic dance and political commentary; and Greece’s Giannis Angelakas. Initially established in 1996, the festival was born out of the need for a purely pop and rock music event in this country, essentially becoming the first of its kind in Greece. Fourteen years on, its fundamental mission has been accomplished, given that the annual event has become an institution and is considered one of Europe’s leading festivals. Each year, Rockwave attracts the global music industry’s leading bands and most popular artists. Over 160 foreign and local artists have written the history of the festival – so far. As for this year, organizers have promised improved conditions for those making the trip to the Malakasa venue, in the hope that the kind of mistakes that troubled numerous music lovers in the past will be avoided this time around. Tickets for the upcoming event are already on sale. For more information, contact Ticket House (42 Panepistimiou, tel 210.360.8366). You may also visit www. rockwavefestival.gr.
