‘Lilly’s Story,’ a tale of exile and art, travels to Venice

Roviros Manthoulis’s new feature film, «Lilly’s Story,» is set to travel to Venice next month, to be screened at the 59th Venice Film Festival, running from August 29 to September 8. This year, the venerable Mostra will be directed by Moritz de Hadeln, former director of the Berlin Film Festival, while announcements of which films will be screened in which categories will be made shortly. Manthoulis’s new film (his last film was shot some 30 years ago) is a combination of fictional and autobiographical elements. Taking place during the military dictatorship in Greece, the film portrays a group of exiles in Paris and is based on an idea by Melina Mercouri. The plot follows the efforts of the people involved in the production of the film itself, revealing the difficulties faced when shooting abroad and the relationships between the cast and the crew during its filming. The cast is led by Giorgos Voyiadzis, Bruno Putzulu, Olia Lazaridou, Minas Hadzisavvas, Anna Galiena, Christina Alexanian, Iota Festa, Anestis Vlachos and Thanassis Vengos.
