Veteran Middle East correspondent John K. Cooley presented the Greek edition of his popular book «Unholy Wars: Afghanistan, America and International Terrorism» (Ellinika Grammata, translation by Constantinos Koliopoulos), at the Foreign Press Association of Greece on October 17. Translation prize short list The Culture Ministry has released the following short list of six candidates for the prize for literary translation into Greek: Eleni Varopoulou for her translation of Heiner Miller’s «Unlucky Angel: A selection of texts on theater, poems and prose,» Alexandros Issaris for his translation of Robert Musil’s «Young Torless,» Maggie Cohen’s translation of Abraham Joshua’s «Journey to the End of the Millennium,» Aris Berlis for his translation of James Joyce’s «Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man,» Alexandra Papathanassopoulou for her translation of Jane Austen’s «Sense and Sensibility» and «Mansfield Park,» and Yiannis Haris for his translation of Milan Kundera’s «Ignorance.» Papadiamantis on CD-ROM The Treasure of the Greek Language Foundation and the Hellenic American Union are launching a CD-ROM containing the collected works and edited correspondence of Alexandros Papadiamantis today to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the author’s birth. The CD also contains the Treasure’s research software program. Hellenic American Union Director Leonidas-Foivos Koskos will moderate a discussion among a panel of speakers in the theater of the Hellenic American Union, 22 Massalias Street, at 8.30 p.m. Dumas’s ‘Ali Pasha’ The French Institute (IFA) is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Alexandre Dumas’s birth by launching his book «Ali Pasha,» published for the first time in one volume. Dumas scholar Professor Claude Schopp and Theodoros Katsikaros of the Greek Open University will present the book at the French Institute, 21 Sina St, at 7.30 p.m., Oct. 29. Simultaneous translation will be provided.
