The Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation presents a new cultural-educational project, “ToposText,” on Wednesday, December 7. Conceived by former US diplomat and member of the American School of Classical Studies Brady Kiesling, “ToposText” is a large database of ancient texts and mapped places relevant the the history and mythology of the ancient Greeks from the Neolithic period up through the 2nd century CE which is also available via a free mobile app that allows scholars, students and travelers to search for thousands of sources relating to monuments, sites and museums, among others. The website combines digital versions of Greek and Latin literature linked to an interactive map of the ancient places they refer to. Besides Kiesling, Dr Eleni Korka, general director of antiquities at the Greek Ministry of Culture, Dr Elton Barker, reader at the Open University and co-founder of the Pelagios Project, and Dr Stavros Paspalas, director of the Australian Archaeological Institute, will be presenting the project on Wednesday. The presentation is set to take place at the Historical Library of the Laskaridis Foundation in Piraeus. Starts at 7 p.m.
