TANKERS Aframax rates in the Med. and Cont. continue to rise with M/T «Athina M» succeeding at W/S 190 FM Lukoil for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Black Sea December 19, discharging Med., while Murphy in the Cont. has fixed M/T «North Pacific» for same cargo quantity, loading December 6 Norway, discharging Germany, at W/S 210. – The Caribs market has slumped further with rates around W/S 130 for 70,000 tons of cargo liftings. Valero has fixed M/T «Kuban,» loading December 14, discharging USAC, at aforesaid levels. – Suezmaxes steady in the Med. as well in W. Africa, with Karran fixing M/T «Lucky Sailor» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading December 18 Novorossisk, discharging UKC/Med., at W/S 137.5, and Sun fixing M/T «Front Splendor» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading December 28, discharging USAC at W/S 108.75, respectively. – In the Med., Petraco has fixed M/T «Poul Spirit» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading December 14, discharging Med., at W/S 182.5. – In the Cont., TTMI for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading mid-December, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Valiant» at W/S 190. – In Caribs, Valero has fixed M/T «Lucky Lady» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading December 11, discharging USAC, at W/S 130. – In W. Africa, Sun for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading December 29, discharging USAC, has fixed MT/ «Genmar Alta» at W/S 107.5. DRY CARGO Capers at steady levels, while Panamaxes in good demand for T/C periods. – Handies/Handymaxes still enjoying very high freight levels, especially out of the US Gulf area. Rates in Asia remain strong for quality tonnage, especially out of S. Africa where tonnage is in tight supply. – On T/C periods, Cargill has fixed M/V «Jin Pu Hai,» 69,902 dwt, built 1996, delivery Antwerp mid-December for 7-9 months’ trading, at USD 10,500 daily, while Panocean has fixed M/V «Cymbeline,» 73,060 dwt, built 2001, delivery China December 8-10 for two years’ trading, at USD 10,750 daily. – On Capers, China Steel has fixed M/V «Bulk Hellas,» 151,045 dwt, built 1995, delivery Korea December 10-12, trip via Australia, redelivery Taiwan, at USD 16,900 daily. – In the Far East, BHP Billiton has fixed M/V «Magna Graeca,» 74,100 dwt, built 2001, delivery December 9-14 Thailand for 4-6 month period, at USD 12,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, Dooyang has fixed M/V «Mary H,» 43,929 dwt, built 1997, delivery Far East end December for 3-5 month period, at USD 8,750 daily.
