OTE an exception in low-volume session

Gains in OTE Telecom helped contain losses on the Athens bourse yesterday after Goldman Sachs upgraded its rating to «outperform» from «in line.» OTE gained 2.15 percent to 10.46 euros while the general index eased 0.02 percent to end at 1,703.50 points. «OTE was a good performer today, with the Goldman upgrade helping. But the broader market shows a great deal of weakness with the lack of liquidity, very clear in the low volume,» said analyst Elias Lazaris at Artion Securities. Total turnover came to 63.67 million euros, versus 81.15 million on Friday. Mobile operator Vodafone Panafon fell as much as 4.7 percent on news that parent Vodafone is not planning to raise its current 63 percent stake. The shares trimmed losses to 2.56 percent to end at 5.32 euros. Blue chips eased 0.14 percent to 834.48 points. Mid-caps eased 0.12 percent while small-caps fell 0.50 percent. (Reuters)
