News of the fires only had a temporary effect on travel bookings to Greece.

Reservations for holidays in Greece in late August and September have shot up, boosting tourism professionals’ estimates that 2021 earnings will reach 50% of those of pre-pandemic 2019.

Earnings then were €18.2 billion, plunging to €4.6 billion in 2020.
